Hollywood Detective Magazine
Hollywood Detective Magazine was published between 1942 and 1950 and ran to 59 issues. The stories contained within the lurid covers were largely reprinted stories taken from Spicy Detective Magazine. The magazine started off as a vehicle for Robert Leslie Bellem's character Dan Turner - the original title of the magazine being Dan Turner - Hollywood Detective.
The Dan Turner stories are filled with a distinctive language that Bellem was renowned for and it's hard to know whether he was taking the mickey when he wrote them or if he seriously wanted us to believe in the outlandish plots, the camp language and the outrageous action sequences.
