Edward S Aarons
One of the popular pulp fiction authors from the mid-1950s through to the mid-1970s was Edward S. Aarons who wrote a 42 strong series of books published by Gold Medal featuring Cajun CIA agent Sam Durell. The series is a spy thriller series in much the same vein as the James Bond series although certainly not as popular. It is better known as the "Assignment" series due to the fact that all titles begin with the word Assignment.
Edward S. Aarons first wrote under the name Edward S. Ronns and published 3 mystery novels in the 1930s as well as some more in the 1940s. The first title in the Sam Durell Assignment series is Assignment To Disaster (1995).
